For eight centuries a large portion of the Iberian Peninsula flourished under Muslim rule as the kingdom known as al-Andalus. Nowhere is the cultural and artistic legacy of al-Andalus better preserved than in its namesake, Andalusia, Spain’s southernmost province.
Hailing from Cadiz, a region in the Southwest of Andalusia, the six musicians that comprise La Banda Morisca bring the sounds of al-Andalus back to life with a spirited reimagining of the sounds of the period. La Banda Morisca ’s live performances are a trip through Andalusia, the Maghreb, the Middle East and across the Mediterranean. Far from the stuffy, academic perception of period music ensembles, La Banda Morisca brings Andalusí music into the XXI Century by infusing elements of flamenco and Andalusian rock, styles that are also greatly influenced by folkloric Andalusian music.
