Corazón de Granada
In 2016, guitarist Pablo Giménez and producer Justine Bayod Espoz create Corazon de Granada (Heart of Granada) with the goal of presenting a trio of Spain’s most successful young flamenco artists. The trio, comprised of Giménez on Guitar, ex-principal dancer of the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía Sara Jiménez and dancer and singer Alberto Sellés, represents the three fundamental pillars of flamenco: vocals, guitar and dance.
All three artists are the product of a rich heritage and years of formal and informal study. With a contemporary artistic vision, this new generation of flamenco musicians and dancers navigate the art form’s richness, from the classical to the traditional, with an approach that is entirely of this moment. The trio made its U.S. premiere in October 2017 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC with its first productionFlamenco Joven y Jondo (Flamenco Young and Deep) focusing on the purist flamenco traditions of Granada. They have also performed as featured artists at the Richmond, Lowell and Montana Folk Festivals and at the Aga Khan Museum’s Duende Flamenco Festival in Toronto. In 2018, the trio began work on its second production, Alhambra, a piece that traces the links between classical Spanish music and dance and flamenco. |
