Alberto Sellés
Alberto Sellés begins his flamenco studies in his hometown of San Fernando, Spain at the Academia de Virginia y Verónica Vélez and continues his studies in Jerez de la Frontera with Angelita Gómez and Patricia Ibáñez. In 2007, he wins the Best Young Artist Award at the XIX Arte Flamenco Ciudad de Ubrique Competition, and in 2008, First Prize at the IX Flamenco Dance Competition of the City of Huelva, which awards him a scholarship to continue his studies at the la Fundación Cristina Heeren in Seville.
In September 2010, Sellés premieres his first solo show “En Libertad” at the Real Teatro de las Cortes de San Fernando, and in November of that same year, he represents Andalusia’s Department of Tourism in Dublin and London. In April 2012, Sellés wins First Prize at the XIII Young Flamencos Competition sponsored by the Federación de Peñas of Seville, and in June of the same year, he wins the XXIV Ubrique National Competition of Flamenco Art. He also performs at the Ghent Flamenco Festival (Belgium), in Oristano, Italy and at the Instituto Cervantes in Rome. |

In 2014, Sellés premieres his second production, “Las Campanas del Olvido” at the Jerez Festival. As a result, the members of the press attending the festival award him the festival’s Newcomer Award. In 2016, he performs “Inmanencia” – a collaboration with dancers Javier Barón and Rafael Campallo – at the Flamenco Biennial in Seville. Sellés has been a soloist for the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía while under the direction of Rafaela Carrasco and subsequently under that of Rafael Estévez. For the ballet, he coreographed the Romeras for the show “Flamenco: Tradición, Vanguardia” and the piece entitled “Zorongo” for the production “Flamencolorquiano.” |
In 2018, he performs with dancer Luisa Palicio at the Gala de la Hispanidad in New York, and in 2019, he performs as a guest artist with the Cuban company Habana Rakatan, directed by Nilda Guerra. That same year, he premieres his most recent solo project “Once” as part of the performance series Los Jueves Flamencos de Cajasol.
Sellés combines work on his solo productions with work dancing in the Estevez/Paños Company and as a choreographer, dancer and singer in Corazon de Granada.
